Thanksgiving oh-seven

Wednesday, December 5th, 2007

So, we had a nice relaxing Thanksgiving this year, and I finally have the photo evidence up.  What wasn’t photographed was the amazing stuffing that we made from the November 2007 issue of Everyday food - nice and simple, made out of Oak’s homemade ciabatta bread.  Yum.
Later that evening we went to see Fred Claus [...]

Our Cosmic Tree

Tuesday, November 13th, 2007

Oak proposed going camping somewhere in our new tent. My immediate thought was “would like not to freeze to death” so I suggested traveling south to Myrtle Beach and Charleston. While I was researching Charleston I came across the Angel Oak. It is so named not because a divine nature, but [...]

Happy Halloween!

Thursday, November 1st, 2007

This Halloween was filled with several days’ worth of spooky fun… Here’s my tech-writer esque bulleted list of activities:

NextStep fall ball - Ah, yes, the yearly event for early tenure IBMers. We had too much fun working on the decorations this year. They were pretty hot, if you ask me! We even [...]

Segway tourin’

Tuesday, September 11th, 2007

This past weekend, we went on a Segway tour of Wilmington!! It was a lot of fun but surprisingly more work/coordination than I suspected. The shifting of weight by leaning forwards and backwards, the steering… yet some people say Segways are for lazy people. Hmmph. My feet were a little sore [...]

Cosmically bonding with nature

Monday, August 27th, 2007

This weekend, the NextStep group went on a wafting excursion with our friendly Eno River naturalist, River Dave. It was fun. We had little inflatable kayaks that held two people. Since the Eno is so calm, only one paddle per waft was needed.. which meant I spent a fair amount of time [...]

Oak island

Sunday, August 26th, 2007

Man, I don’t know what’s been going on lately but I sure haven’t gotten to updating the site. The first weekend in August, we had a great weekend with Mom and Dave at Oak Island. First of all, Oak enjoyed it because he was pretending that we were on “his island” all weekend. [...]

Weekend in the mountains

Tuesday, July 31st, 2007

This past weekend, we had a lovely trip to the North Carolina Mountains. At the very last minute, we realized that the Bele Chere festival was that weekend - it’s huge in Asheville, since there’s a bunch of free music, crafts vendors, etc. We were a little nervous that this might impede on [...]

Pickin’ the pig

Tuesday, June 19th, 2007

This past weekend was the NextStep picnic. It was Oak’s idea to roast his very first whole pig for the event. So, we rented a giant pig cooker you can tow, acquired a pig from a friend-of-a-friend who can acquire pigs directly from a farmer, and a group of the guys spent the night [...]

Agriculture in Durham

Monday, June 4th, 2007

This past Saturday, Oak and I went to the Durham Farmer’s market, and from there ended up visiting various places in Durham. We decided after the market that we had to go buy a headlight for Oak’s car, so Lola (our trusty GPS) took us to a very ghetto Autozone. Luckily, a Biscuitville [...]

Taste of Durham

Friday, June 1st, 2007

Oak, Alex, and I went to the Taste of Durham festival last weekend. This year, it was in an office park in Research Triangle Park, which was a little weird. Then, a number of restaurants there were actually from Morrisville (Victoria’s Sweets, Charlie’s Cajun Cafe, Texas Roadhouse, Carmen’s Cuban Cafe..). Apparently the new [...]
