A few weekends ago, we finally made it to Daisy Cakes in Durham.  It’s a few blocks down (a pleasant walk) from the Farmer’s Market on Saturday morning.  You can’t see it from the market, but just go towards the Scrap Exchange and keep walking and you’ll see the Airstream trailer:

They’ve transformed this family camping vehicle into a land of delicious gourmet cupcakes.  You might know I’ve been in pursuit of a gourmet cupcake for awhile now.  In Asheville, we found a cupcake place that was charging $4 for a CHOCOLATE cupcake.  How boring (and totally not worth it) is that?   Similar situation in Georgetown in Washington DC.  Figures, after the pursuit of a gourmet cupcake in exotic (OK, maybe let’s say “more urban”) locales, we find the perfect gourmet cupcake right here in the Triangle.

The only disappointment of the day was that the lady in front of us bought the last pumpkin cupcake, which Oak was planning on purchasing.  I couldn’t convince him to get a vanilla chai cupcake,  so we shared this s’mores cupcake:

It was as tasty as it looks.  A  browned mashmallow frosting with a graham cracker garnish tops a chocolate cupcake with a surprise chocolate ganache filling.  All for $2.50.  Not a bargain, but a heck of a lot more reasonable than the $4 cupcake in Asheville!  You could tell that some thought, love, and work went into this cupcake.  I think there might be a new farmer’s market tradition…

(PS Thanks to Oak for tolerating my cupcake obsessiveness!! haha)

Mmm. Looks good – was it real marshmallow or meringue?

  • Carrie Says:

I’m pretty darn sure it was marshmallow!!! Definitely heavier than a meringue.
