<super-fan obsessing> I was so thrilled when I learned that Eve 6 had reunited, and, even better, was coming to play a show in Raleigh! Hellow, awesomeness. Of course I had to go. Unfortunately, the lead guitarist, Jon, has not rejoined the group but his replacement was pretty good. Apparently (according to my prowling of the message boards) they have not yet announced Jon’s replacement officially. So, we shall see. There’s also a lot of speculation about a new album being recorded, perhaps after the tour season ends in October. I hope so! I spent the last few days fueling my addiction with the past CDs, but I would appreciate some new material.

Here’s my dorky scrapbook tribute to Eve 6. (Because, scrapping is SO punk rock! hellow!) I lifted these pictures from somewhere on the internet a long time ago, and put some of the past concert tickets and a sticker that they passed out at one of the concerts a few years ago. It was also an opportunity to use some “Rock star” paper from DCWV (with the skulls) that I bought but couldn’t think of any other reason to use. I didn’t see any new goods at this show, but maybe in the future! Woohoo!

Yes,  I am still alive, but there are tons of things going on right now which are preventing me from being a good and frequent blogger:

  • Alex and Virginia got married- congratulations!
  • Durham Bulls game for NextStep.
  • Went to the Creating Keepsakes Convention in Charlotte.  It was a lot of fun!  I hope to go again next year!
  • Oak’s and my mom’s birthdays, which happen within 3 days of each other — Happy Birthday!
  • Sand volleyball finals and tournament (somehow, we still have at least 2 games left, even though we are ranked last in the league.)
  • That pesky thing called work.
  • Getting an oil change for the car – somehow always is a pain.
  • Oak’s family is visiting this week.
  • Oak and his dad are  ripping out our carpet and linoleum and replacing it with beautiful bamboo flooring!  Hotness!  Though, a side effect of this process is that all our belongings are stewn throughout our upstairs.  Craziness!
  • My camera is broken. :(   The LCD somehow got cracked.  I have no idea how.

I’m sure there is more.  Let’s just call this a running list.  Be back when things are less crazy – hopefully that happens soon. :)

scanned-photo-1.jpegWhile visiting the rents in Concord a few weekends ago, we had to go blackberry picking at Summerberry farm. We sort of have a personal connection with this farm because one of the kids of the owners rode my mom’s bus. (OK that’s a big sort of, but at least this way we know where it is!)

Anyway, when we showed up these two women were lugging their huge bounty of freshly picked blackberries, quite proud of themselves. It was a 50-something woman and her mother. They gushed on about how wonderful the blackberries were, about how even though it’s the end of the season we’ll still find plenty to pick, etc etc. Somehow the topic came up of what exactly they were doing with 6 pints of blackberries. Apparently, you make cobbler. Well duh! We were thinking a tart or something to that effect, but cobbler is so much easier!!! And, the fact that we have it written on a scrap of paper that was in one of their purses makes it so much cooler. The back has something crossed out that says “Crime Beat – true” — no idea what that means. Maybe these ladies are in some covert crime fighting organization. Mom claims that these two are us in about 30 years. I hope so! They were happening ladies!

So, here’s the recipe. We tried it, and it’s delicious!

Blackberry picking ladies’ recipe for blackberry cobbler
8×8 glass pan
Grease dish
Put 4 cups berries in – put 1tbls lemon juice over -
Mix in bowl 1 cup flower – 1 cup sugar – 1 egg until looks like coarse meal
Sprinkle over berries
Drizzle 6 tbs butter over all
Bake 35 min – 375 degrees

Try it and let me know what you think! This whole thing inspired us to go through some of the old family recipes my mom has sitting in her recipe box. Stay tuned for awesome dishes from the 70s!

bento.jpgAlex got me me my very own Mr. Bento for my birthday!!! Here is the first bento lunch that I packed. (Did you know there are several bento pools on flickr?) Yes, I realize the insulated jar is supposed to be for rice, but whatevs. I think now I know why Japanese people are a) so small and b) healthy – this forces you not only to pick a variety of healthy foods, it controls the portion size. They are clever folk. Even the small containers stack up inside the bigger jar and the bag collapses for storage! So innovative! And, it matches our kitchen. Double ding. Thanks again Alex! ;)
