Catering, Asian BBQ, and dessert
By Carrie | May 5, 2008
Well, for the very first time this weekend, I worked as a caterer. Oak’s coworker’s wife owns a catering business, and she needed some extra hands to help out with an extra big event on Friday. Oak helps out every so often working as a bartender at weddings and such, but this was my very first time. Well, it was craziness! I was a little doubtful when 3 of us (me and two high school kids) were assigned to putting out drinks (just 4 things: sweetened and unsweetened iced tea, water, and lemonade). Surely this drink station was overstaffed… or so I thought.. Well, holy moly, within the first 30 people through the line, we were out of lemonade. So we had to pour more, basically for every other person that came through the line. Then, of course, when we got caught up on lemonade, the iced tea ran out. and so on. LOL. My crowning achievement was that I made it through the evening without dropping anything (besides a few rolls when I was helping to bus the tables) or making a huge spill on anyone or myself. Phew! I was definitely not made to be a waitress. haha.
Saturday was more relaxing- Belinda and I celebrated National Scrapbooking Day by going to a little scrapbook party that was hosted by the local Stampin’ up representative. It was fun - we made 2 scrapbook pages, but I’m not sure what I’m going to do with them at the moment. They are definitely not India-themed.. lol. I’m sure the occasion will arise eventually.
For Belinda’s Birthday we went to Seoul Garden in Raleigh for Korean BBQ. It was pretty fun because we had a grill in the table. The frustrating part was that the grill seemed to be barely hotter than a warming dish.. LOL. But, luckily, we had plenty of other goodies to much on while we were waiting for the meat to cook. I have to go against Greg Cox’s approval of pork belly. It was way too fatty. They also picked on us for not ordering 8 different things to go on the grill - with 6 entrees we were all really full, so whatevs! We would have been there for about 4 hours waiting for that much food to grill!
On Sunday we went to brunch at the Hibernian, but the real crowning achievement of the day was this crazy cake we had at Hereghty in Raleigh. Check out this decadent masterpiece! The little piece of chocolate under the loopy part had the logo of the restaurant on it.. Tres chic!
