Still alive and loving ANIMALS!

Man, sorry for the lack of April updates. I promise I’m still alive and kicking - just lacking the motivation to update my site. Sigh! Lately we’ve been visiting lots and lots of ANIMALS! Woohoo!
Two weekends ago we had a trip to the North Carolina Zoo. It was a gratifying experience, especially after the “safari” in India where we saw no animals at all. At least this way we saw everything! They’ve added a new “grasslands” experience where you can actually get even closer to the elephants (they’ve got quite a pasture!). My favorite were the meercats, especially after watching so much Meercat Manor. They are soo much smaller than they appear on TV. haha. The other amusing part of our trip were the baboons. I’m pretty sure some parents probably had to discuss the birds and the bees after their kids saw the baboons.
This past weekend, I arranged a NextStep (IBM new hire group) outing to the Duke Lemur Center. It was quite interesting. Duke has the largest research center for lemurs and the largest population of lemurs in captivity in the world. We only saw a portion of the lemurs, but they were very cute. We learned in the summer you can also do an enclosure tour where you see the lemurs that are let out into the Duke Forest. Very neato!
After the lemur center we went out and saw farm animals on the Piedmont farm tour - including hens, happy pigs, and the pampered cows at Chapel Hill creamery.

You weren’t kidding when you said serious quantities of animals! I don’t think I’ve seen a lemur in at least 20 years. They ARE totally cute!
