A fair is a veritable smorgasbord, orgasbord, orgasbord

By Carrie | October 17, 2007

Oak has been singing that little ditty from the Charlotte’s Web movie (animated version please! We didn’t make it through the live-action version that came outstatefair07.gif recently) for weeks and weeks before we went to the fair.

We did our best to pay tribute to Templeton Rat’s ode to the fair. First of all, the News 14 people had been hyping up the deep-fried fad of this year - the peanut butter and jelly sandwich. It was quite torturous lying there half asleep in the morning, hearing about this delectable treat while eating a bowl of cold Cheerios. So, when I saw it, I made a beeline and got that sucker. The only thing I could hope for in it is some better quality jelly. Better yet, some jam or preserves. But yeah, it was pretty tasty. We also got some nutter butter cookies from the same tent. Also delicious. Basically, if it’s sweet, it’s good deep fried. (Heck.. name something that isn’t good deep fried. I challenge you.)

We wandered around a bit and checked out the exhibits - the garden exhibit, and of course the home making exhibits. We got our requisite jumbo garlic pretzel. Oak was very excited to get a hot and spicy pickle. We saw the racin’ pigs. We even played a few of the cheapo games - Bingo and “I got it”. I actually WON a game of bingo (Holy moly!) and I got a lovely casserole dish. Can we say they should shop somewhere other than Dollar General for the prizes? LOL. Anyway, we called that win as the end of Bingo for the evening and headed to the “I got it” tent after a bit of wandering. We were having a lovely time throwing the balls into the bins in hopes of getting a line of balls, when unfortunately the husband got yelled at because he kept apparently purposely missing the bin and getting the balls on the ground! The carnie was not very happy with us. (Sound familiar, mom?)

Before we left, Daniela and Belinda got chocolate-covered bananas and we had a little bit too much fun posing with wooden cut-outs of characters on PBS. See the evidence for yourself.

One of the typical cuisines of the area i live in is Gran Fritto Misto–a meal smorgusborg of fried foods–vegetables, meats, cookies, fruit, you name it, they fry it and serve it to you in this 20 course meal. One of the things they often fry are the strange parts of animals (cock balls, veal spinal cords, etc). But I have to say, if they’re fresh from the frier even those are good! lol. That package i sent to you came back to me-I sent it to the wrong address AGAIN!!!! You have to send me your real new address because apparently…I have issues with recognizing it.lol.

Oh boy - a whole cuisine of deep-friedness? That sounds mighty exciting!!! Unfortunately the fair does not deep fry strange animal parts. Sigh!

I’ll send you the address again in an email. :D I think I need your latest address too.
