MonkeyBallAlex kindly rented Super Monkey Ball Banana Blitz last weekend. After being addicted to Super Monkey Ball and Super Monkey Ball 2 throughout college, we just had to give the Wii version a shot.

Of course we pretty much played a bunch of the party games… I never really played the “real” game anyway – left that for the TEP brothers to do to unlock all the fun. Some of the old favorites are there (monkey race, monkey fight, etc.). But, the Wii controls make them completely different. The racing was still pretty fun as before, with the weapons (“hey! you turned me into an ice cube!”), but Monkey target had a lot of features and levels removed. I’m guessing since they seemed to need to make every MonkeySport imaginable.

Just to prove this concept… there was Monkey Disc Golf. Needless to say, Oak was thrilled. I was not thrilled as we spent some painful time figuring out how to throw and align the frisbee. The controls were aggravating, but not nearly as aggravating as regular golf. Let’s just say – Monkeys… leave these sports to the Wii Sports people. They work much better there.

Some of the new mini games were pretty fun, though. One of our favorites was this “Hammer throw” game, where you swing a hammer and then throw it as far as you can. Apparently the easier the game, and the less Wii remote skill required, the more we’re fans. Does this mean we’re getting old?
