Well, my Movable type finally seems to be working again (fingers crossed). I really need to switch blogging systems ASAP. But really I need a whole day (or evening) to set aside and do this. Or more, as I’ll need to export and import all the entries into whatever system I decide to use. Le Sigh.
Anyway, we had our final cake decorating class on the day before halloween. I made this spring-like cake because we were learning the final steps of “The Wilton Rose.” My icing was apparently a little too stiff (that caused the ruffles on the edge of the petals). I’m calling them “carnations” instead. Ding! I realized after class that for Halloween, black or orange roses would have been more appropriate. Oh well. This time instead of icing the cake in the not-so-tasty crisco butter cream, we used the real stuff.
Much more Halloween-ish… we also used real butter cream in these peanut butter chocolate cupcakes for week #3 of the class. Yum. They had a chocolate kiss baked inside of peanut butter enhanced yellow cake. It was a recipe from Cupcakes from the Cake Mix Doctor. The Cake Mix Doctor is a genius. I got the books from the library, and I plan on purchasing at least the cupcakes and the original book in the near future. I also made some cranberry muffins (muffins are apparently “cupcake cousins”) that were to die for. Deee-lish.

Wow!! Those are awesome. I wish I lived closer to sample some. What did Oak do the cupcakes? Those are hot also. So is there an advanced course now that the two of you are so good at what you have learned?
