Oak and I are taking a cake decorating class together at Michaels this month.Tuesday was our first “hands-on” class, where we brought in our own cakes to decorate. We used a pattern transfer method to put the outline of the designs on the cake, and then filled them in with the star piping tip. It’s a lot of fun and reminds me of a coloring book. There are limitless designs! I just went simple with a fairytale colored pumpkin. Oak stole my orange and also put a pumpkin next to his piggy.
Overall it was a fun and exciting experience and we’re looking forward to next week, when we’re learning roses and other figures. Ding!
We went to a pig pickin’ with Alex and his coworkers yesterday (it sure seems as our whole lives revolve around bbq doesn’t it? I promise that’s not the truth – at least completely!).
It was a roarin’ good time. Oak made sweet potato pie that wowed everyone there and put the catered cobbler to shame.
To burn off some of the delciousness, we played some frisbee catch (not exactly the most strenuous sport in the world). Oak threw the frisbee in this interesting arched method, causing the frisbee to fly at an angle, which of course caused me to semi-catch the frisbee and whack myself in the head. That’s because no matter what sport it is, I find a way for the object in question to whack me in the head.
Anyway, whenever I get headaches lately they just burn on and on basically until I go to bed. Advil, Tylenol, and Motrin have all been tried to no avail. So, we picked up some of the “headache medicine” – Excedrin. I took the two pills as directed, and in about an hour my headache was mostly gone.
Then, I read the package again and realized that it contains caffeine. Some internet research says “the same amount as in a cup of coffee.” I suddenly was energetic, explaining the 2am posting. I finally decided to go to bed at about 3.
Now, I can barely keep my peepers open. Is there any headache medicine I can take after 6pm?
I really need to post in a more regulated time period… It’s become so easy to slack off, and then have TONS of things to post. Along the way, I forget to write about half of them… here’s a post that’s a few weeks late:
A few weeks ago, we went to the Western NC Barbeque Festival. We stayed at Bettina’s old house in Asheville. We had a chance to try out our Polar pod mummy sleeping bags. Warm and toasty, and hard to get up in the morning.
The festival was a lot of fun – just like you’d expect it if you ever watched those BBQ cook-offs on the food channel. We watched the BBQ competitors carefully painting and plating their offerings, and running to the submission table at the last second. We especially enjoyed the after-competition free cue to go around. YUM!
After the festival, we “gambled” at Harrah’s casino in Cherokee. My personal favorite was the video World Poker Tournament video poker game. I made it into the video tournament once. I lost twelve dollars in two hours.
On Sunday morning we went to Early girl eatery on Wall St. in downtown Asheville. It was very good, but not as good as Tupelo honey
I had a Three-mushroom omelet and a $4 rocks glass of freshly squeezed orange juice.
Overall, that was a very pleasant weekend! See our pictures here.
I also FINALLY posted our honeymoon pictures on my Digital gallery.
