Anyone who knows Oak knows his passion for pigs – both the oinking kind and the kind that’s barbequed.

So, it was an obvious choice to go to the Cabarrus County Fair to see Robinson’s Racing Pigs. We’d seen them at the NC state fair last year, but my mom was especially excited to see the new-to-us “paddlin’ porkers.”

There were 3 sets of pigs: one pink set, one black and pink set, and an all black set. Apparently they get excited to race because at the finish line, the winner gets a whole Oreo. They also cruble up a few Oreos inside of the trough for the “losers.” Yummy!

Well, I was looking up these famous pigs for this blog entry, and apparently animal rights activists aren’t too happy about it.

What I don’t understand is people have been racing other animals since the beginning of time (horses, dogs, etc.) so how is this any different?

The pigs retire when they reach 50 pounds, so this isn’t a lifetime commitment for them. Plus, I doubt they suffer emotionally like a dejected child star!

I can’t believe animal activists are mad at the people who do the swimming pigs. They looked like they were having a high ole time. lol

They looked like they were having fun to me too, but what do we know? We can’t speak pig to ask them how they like swimming :) lol.

Maybe Oak can get the inside scoop. He lived with a pig for a long time….somehow that doesn’t sound right. For all who reads this who doesn’t know that Oaks mom had a pot belly pig for years would think bad things. LOL
