Last weekend, Oak and I went to the flea market, namely to get a print framed for his parents. Nestled in the corner of the flea market is a frame shop, bustling with activity. No more paying $300 for a custom frame at Michael’s!

But what was amazing was how quickly and accurately they worked. The mat-cutting lady would quickly examine the print or object, and with a few swift cuts with the huge paper-cutter (which seemed very dangerous to me), a perfect mat was cut. She also helped choose the colors of the mat and frame. When she talked, people listened! haha. The best was when a girl had a cross-stitch project of Santa claus that had a stitched frame with a curve on the top.

With hesitation, the girl asked, “Can you make the mat match the top?” and the woman was like, “I’VE BEEN KNOWN TO DO THAT!”

Then it was the highlight- the giant circle cutter. She also did some amazing math in her head for that one. I’m personally still quite astounded.

Today Oak and I went to a wine-tasting at Chatham Hill Winery. My personal favorites were Sauvignon Blanc, Sweet Carolina Blackberry, and the Viognier (named the “white wine that wants to be a red”, had a very complex taste compared to the fruity flavors of the others I enjoyed). Yay!

We also went to the library in Apex, where I got some books on elegant table settings. Their holiday books were very low, I guess people have them out already! Yesterday we got our christmas tree. It’s small (4ft tall). Apparently real trees are prohibited in our complex. Well, I also am allergic to them, and they make a mess when all the needles fall off. I’m perfectly happy with the fakie! The problem is it seems that all tree decorations are incredibly cheese. I have ornaments, obviously, but no garland, lights, etc. I guess I have to decide on that motifa sometime! :-D haha.

Let’s get through Thanksgiving first though! :-)

Carrie! Your living room is so hot and Carrikea-ish! I love the big long pole things on your mantle. Uncle G has some of those here–they’re in a clear glass bottle that has sublte, nice smelling liquid in it, so it keeps the rods wet and makes them bend a little bit. Very hot. That big red flower is so uplifting! Nice work!
