It’s been a busy week. The fam was visiting – and it was a fabu time! Got some quality Triangle-area shopping in, some barbecque, you know, pretty standard really. I miss them already! *sob* My apartment did get some lovin’, it’s a lot cozier now with curtains and some mood lighting. (Pictures coming soon!).
I made another monumental purchase – a couch and loveseat. It’s boo-ful, khaki microfiber with modern lines and the feel of suede! Oh behave. Plus it’s a sofa bed so I can entertain guests (hint hint to anyone in a drivable distance!). I would have gotten a picture, but my mom got one with her film camera – the SALESMAN actually took it, oh yeah we are that cool
In a short 2-3 weeks cushy new furniture will be gracing the presence of my happy apartment.
Well, this is just the beginning. After this is a bed, new dining room set, TV stand – yeah it never actually REALLY ends.

To current and former friends in RTP – I decided I am really going for the Punk Look. After a disappointing haircut that ended up with the Boring Look instead of the Punk Look, I decided, hey, why not get some punk clothes? Because those are totally acceptable for working at IBM! Well, I think punk-inspired business clothes would be totally original. Picture this shirt with some dress pants or a skirt – oh yeah, hot stuff. My next purchase is going to be punk pinstripe pants. I saw some in Charlotte Russe I should have gotten – but really, 5 hooks to close up one pair of pants? Can we say not efficient?
A punk makeover of this here website is coming soon. I’ve got the visuals, it’s the acutal (boring) implementation part left. That’s a bit more of a chore, so I’m not exactly sure when it’ll happen, but I do promise Carrievision.com: The Punk Edition.
I think now I’ll dance around the apartment like an idiot. Fun!
So I joined the ultimate frisbee team at work. Yahoo! I got to touch the frisbee once today, to block, which was exciting. Unfortunately there were like 4 women on the other team, so there were always 2 on the field, and they like to play matching genders, so I was playing for like a whole hour. (way too much going deep, running back and forth across the field a billion times) Needless to say I was practically dying by the end. I am not used to these running-around sports. Well, let’s just put it as sports in general. I feel most of the other people playing are athletes of some sort. And Carrie != athlete. Ah, the consequences of being a band geek in high school ! lol (I just showed of my computer nerd skills with the whole not equals thing up there too, oh yeah oh yeah) I should challenge these people to an step-aerobics marathon and see where that takes them! haha
I am sore already. I might have to take the elevator instead of the stairs tomorrow morning! lol

Namely, the cute widdle blond puppy in this picture?! God it is so frickin cute. Or maybe even her and one of her brothers?! But am I ready to be a mommy?
I need to share some of my aggravation or else I will not get anything done this morning.
Transferring a drivers license seems like an easy enough task. Apparently not when your office is hidden in a TRAIN STATION! What the heck. I drove around half an hour looking for 211 N. Academy St – when in fact it was on the side of the road with even numbers in the Amtrak station.
Then the true aggravation – the lines. Of course, I expected this from my experience at the NY DMV. However, they didn’t have those handy forms you can grab and make sure you have everything – no not so much. Plus, there were no numbers so you had to stay in line the whole time. I did check the signs for forms of ID and whatnot, and it seemed OK. I should have been suspicious when I heard every person around me saying they’d just been there the day before.
Needless to say, an hour and a half later, when I was about 5 people from the front of the line, I was told I needed proof of liability insurance. Not a requirement in NY, I had practically every other proof of identity with me (passport, Social Security, old ID, proof of residence.. blah blah).
I’ve decided I’m going to camp out in front of the DMV (well, in the train station) at least half an hour before it opens. Oy – 7 AM is EARLY!
Things I am going to bring – a stack of magazines and my ENTIRE file box (not only so I have every possible wanted form, but also handy to sit on).
Grrrr. Time for some Godsmack.
Last night, after joking about the poor guy all summer, we saw Fi-hy Cen. It’s not so much the music that was interesting, but the experience. I can now say I went to a rap concert.
Tonight Anne and I are getting haircuts! Then we are planning on enjoying the Raleigh nightlife. It will be fun times for all, I’m sure.
After temporary hiatus, I am back to being large and in charge (somewhat). It’s been busy! I’m enjoying the hectic life because a lot of the co-ops that are here now are leaving next weekend so I am getting all my socializing in before they leave!
Work is going well, I am finally starting to know what I’m doing and I feel like people are starting to trust me with real responsibilities, which is a good thing. My team is really groovy. I do XML documentation stuff (lookie here). We also had some fun luncheons and popsicles at our department meeting! yay.
I would just also like to state that the long-awaited Eve 6 concert was amazing. I squeezed my way to the front and sang every word to every song, it was fun times. If you haven’t bought their new CD, “It’s all in your head,” shame on you because it is an excellent album.
Anne’s friends Claus, Jesper, and Kristian from Denmark also came to visit on part of their roadtrip across the US. We had fun trying to show them American culture, like bowling and mini golfing, but we got in a lot of arguments about how horrible American food is. They don’t like peanut butter (Hello!? one of gods finer inventions) but they like this really horrible salty licorice which I spit out 3 seconds after putting it in my mouth. We tried to get them to understand the novelty of fast food, but they don’t appreciate them besides the free refills, which apparently they do not have in Denmark. Haha. Anyway, it was a crazy weekend!!!
I actually have a meeting tomorrow morning so I should go get some rest. Pictures soon!
I’m semi-convinced I am partially living in Office Space. I’ve got the annoying voiced lady nearby, now I just need to find someone slightly obsessed with a red stapler… hrm…
It’s been an exciting week, been out and about. Woohoo! Out is so cool, and About is even cooler! Had aerobics and swing dancing and some drinks at the ultra-hip Flying Saucer. (It would be cooler if the place was shaped like a flying saucer, but that’s my personal opinion.. some people are satisfied enough with 70 different beers on tap..)
Tonight Anne and I were shown the wonderful land of Carborro, where apparently you can buy a lot of organically-grown food and dance like a free spirit. I will do that when I get in a Phoebe-ish mood sometime… grab my clarinet and be a barefooted street musician in Carborro. I wonder if I could make a good living doing that. Or at least some money to buy corn-fed goat milk. Yes, that definitely sounds like a plan! Carborro, here I come.
