My mom and I went to a real live auction this morning in rainy Wyoming. We stood outside for awhile and observed the farmers bidding on broken televisions, questionable lawnmowers, far overused couches, etc. I especially liked checking out their John Deere hats, mullets, and mud-covered boots.
The auctioneer was hilarious. Everything was “priced to go!” not for one dollah? Half dollah! Oh do I hear one dollah now? I tried to do impressions of him – “one dollar bidabidabidabidahighbida do I hear two bidabidabidahighbida” The best part was when this TV came up that had a sign on it that said, “works, but sound doesn’t work.” The auctioneer actually had the nerve to say, “Well gee that would be great for a deaf person!” Hopefully there were no lip-reading deaf people there.
Not that we didn’t get into the hot bidding action. Once they got to the “good” stuff that was packed up in a tractor trailer, we were sure to keep our biddin’ number ready. The first steal was a beveled edge mirror I won, probably like 12 inches by 36 inches – for two dollars!
Then my mom went on to win a daybed frame for about $5, some shelves for $5.. then another mirror came up. This one was HUGE (3 feet by 4 feet, AT LEAST) and just as cool with etching on the corners. I was thinking, yes that would go just lovely over the fireplace! I won that sucker for FIVE DOLLARS! I think that redneck ebay is even better than garage sales and SA Boutique!
The biggest purchase of the day was my mom’s bid on a desk for fifteen dollars. It is pretty impressive though, heavy with drawers and dovetailed joints. Hot stuff.
Not to mention the “lot” boxes. This is basically a mystery box, they will hold up one or two things in it and be like, “PRICED TO GO!” and start at five dollars. Except nobody ever pays over one dollar. We got two of them, one had a whole bunch of pots and tupperware in it. The tupperware was even brand new. So impressive.
Gee I need to get a truck in NC so I can stock up on cheap-o furniture! hahaha. Maybe not, but I can get smaller furniture that way! Awesome! hehe.
Eve 6′s new CD came prematurely available by mp3. I am listening to it now. I have to listen to stuff a few times before I decide if I like it or not, and I like most music a lot more after I know the lyrics. Silly me. I do really like the single, “Think Twice.” Hopefully I’ll start hearing that baby on the radio soon. Well I didn’t have to wait until after my birthday after all!
