Loobylu reports that Ikea is indeed the perfect place to have a date. And I must agree. Glamorous meatballs for dinner, followed by hours of entertainment dreaming about Lacks and Gustles and Bubblans… And be sure to check out her illustration, it’s too cute.
I hope wherever I end up, there’s an Ikea nearby. That would be lovely.
My left thumb has been deemed a useless (and painful) appendage. You really never realize the benefits of the opposable thumbs until they are out of order. Poopy.
Our conceptual design memo for Studio Design in HCI is so hot. It’s got serious bling bling (Well.. that means “graphics-intensive” as far as powerpoints go.. last I knew powerpoint presentations do not enjoy wearing heavy pieces of jewelry, it would be a serious bandwidth-eater).
We actually got in the water in scuba today! (Hence the subject.. that’s the PADI slogan.. lol) Wooo! We had to do a 200 meter swim. I finished last, being the only girl in the class. Of course. It seems most guys seem to think everything is a race – we weren’t even being timed for this and they were all huffing and puffing by the end. The point was to see if you could swim to begin with – not how fast you can swim! The reason I enjoy scuba as a sport to begin with is that it’s relaxed, calm, and NOT a race (In fact, by swimming fast you use up more of your air. So there.). We’ll see how things work as people get under water. Hehe.
Weather certainly has a large effect on people’s moods. It’s so nice to see people happily rollerblading through campus or playing frisbee in the quad. It’s over 40 degrees and people are just goin’ crazy, I tell you.
What’s wrong with the world is that we are supposed to get snow on Sunday. Snow. Boo.
Another thing that is wrong: Messed up Care Bears – I feel I would have been highly traumatized by this 10 years ago. It does put a whole new meaning to the term “Beer Belly” though. Haha.
The past few days have been devoted almost completely to making my online portfolio. Hopefully this will prove worth the effort as my job search continues. Now I can say “check out my ultra hot folio” instead of trying to explain what it is exactly I do. Ding. I do have more stuff to add.. it’s such tedious work, resizing images and writing copy about projects that are done already… oy.
Oak and I went to walmart last night. I got some hot scrapbooking stuff – some vellum cut-outs of sea creatures and whatnot. Now I just gotta get prints of the digital pictures we took so I can begin my scrapbooking! ding.
I’m not looking forward to the walk back to my room from work-study… it’s pouring out. At least it means that spring is here.
Altered books look like a good thing for creative release: what is an altered book?
Just imagine all the creations we could have made with discarded library books!
Friday I was making copies for computer science 2 lab, on the “old” copier in the Amos Eaton building. I decided that copier has some serious issues, emotionally. First of all, it squeals uncontrollably sometimes while collating and stapling. (an obvious cry for attention) Its other favorite thing to do is to rock back and forth while making its copies. I’m not kidding, this 5 foot-long, 4 foot high machine literally moves, trying to escape its dingy little copy room home. I don’t blame it, if I had computer scientists shoving books and pieces of paper into me with database theory and algorithms on them constantly, I’d be angry too. It obviously needs to be fed a good graphic romance novel or a good tabloid magazine to mix up its life a bit.
But, alas, it is rumored that this copier is being replaced by a sexy new version that is networked and can be accessed remotely (saving clerical staff the trouble of converting everything to double-sided, stapled… professors can just print them that way right to the copier, hurrah). Isn’t that always the way? Nobody even feels sorry for the dejected copier. I hope my friend finds a way to overcome the emotional problems it has undergone from years of abuse.
In other mechanical and digital news, I’m printing to the VCC this evening. Please keep your fingers crossed that my stuff actually prints. For some reason people are sending the plotter 2 GB files. Is that really necessary?
Yes, I’ve been living off the web the past week. Look at me!
Somehow, when there is eighty degree weather, turquoise oceans, and gourmet food at every meal, the internet suddenly becomes a bit less important.
So yes, break was great! Saw lots of pretty fishies (even a sting ray!) and got a tan and sand in my hair. And tons of other stuff! (I even conned the guys into going to IKEA!). Once the photos are all developed, our trip will be detailed on here, of course.
Coming back to RPI was somewhat depressing – snow on the ground and a reminder of the horrid job market. However, will persevere and complete the last semester!
Tally ho!
This weekend through spring break we’re embarking on Cruise 2003: exploring the Eastern Seaboard and Eastern Caribbean. Haha. Well, we are going to the following destinations:
Rocky Mount, NC – to sleep!
Charleston, SC – fort Sumter(? I’m not sure.. I’m not terribly excited about the whole fort thing), and exploring the city
St. Augustine, FL – hangin’ out in the city – Oak wants to go to A1A Ale works
Miami, FL – to hang out for a few days before the cruise. We are probably going to Miami beach and/or Key Largo (so I can sing “Kokomo” and annoy everyone! ding!)
—now, cruise destinations!–
Key West, FL – Southernmost point in the US! Now that’s exciting ![]()
Nassau, Bahamas – we get to stay overnight here – party on babiez!
Then a crazy trip back to Troy to start classes again. Just in yesterday: our staterooms are outer staterooms with picture windows! hotness. Especially since we only paid for inner staterooms. Highly impressive.
My ghetto cruise 2003 site – will be much hotter when I’ve got all the pictures, I promise! Check out the weather thing. I’m so proud I got weather working on my server. yay.
Have a good break (or week) everyone!
I’m supposed to be working on my project right now, but hey I was looking for pictures and came across these. And I realized gee, our campus can be quite lovely when it’s not covered in ice, snow, and a haze of grey sky. So everyone, take a look at these and dream of a warmer tomorrow! yay.
Today was the first class in my PADI Openwater SCUBA certification. It was rather dull, I must say. We didn’t even get into the water – rather, we watched videos with some British dude that babbled on while people in neon clothes faked being in danger, etc etc. It was rather amusing
But really, how many times in 5 hours can one say, “Keep breathing or you will die”? It will get more exciting, I’m sure, once we get in the water and swim around and whatnot.
Oak and I went and got our special new scuba gear on Friday night. Mine is mostly black, except I have a purple mask. It’s all hot stuff.
I never thought I would wear “booties” after being about, oh, 1 year old or so. But now I have scuba booties. Oh baby!
Last night we went out for German food (my least favorite of our “exotic cuisine of the month”.. well, I like sushi better, anyway). There was also a serious par-tay! wohoo. I had fun drawing Futurama characters on the wall with highlighers, so they would glow in blacklight. You know you go to a geeky school when code of some sort (accurate or not) ends up on the wall. Oy.
