Today I got up, not feeling much like going to class. But, I braved the stinging icicles of snow on my face, a slippery wet ground, and water spots on my glasses to go to Technical Professional Communication at 10am. I made the 15 minute walk from my dorm to Sage Lab and lo and behold, a note on the door stating class was cancelled. This is all fine and dandy, except there was the 15 minute walk back to my room! Brrz!
I braved the weather again to go to work this afternoon, where I learned this evening’s classes have been cancelled. Dude, in Western NY, they would NEVER cancel anything for 3 inches of icy snow. Albany is so whimpy. Not that I’m complaining about missing class or anything! I think it’s time to snuggle under the covers with a large glass of hot chocolate. Yum.
Even though it’s taken me quite awhile to get things working with Movable Type… about 5 hours, plus about 2 hours of getting old file paths in archives working. And one post to the help forum, which was quite helpful. And now I have all of my posts in one system, and I can categorize them as I choose. Not to mention the fact that I can have multiple weblogs. It’ll take some time to figure it all out, but I like the interface a lot so I’m hoping I’ll be more inclined to work with it than with greymatter (I’m a sucker for pretty graphics.).
Has anyone else had success making the switch?
Hello to my webloggers webring neighbors!
Inkiboo and Screaming Infidelities.
Apologies for a long overdue post. Thursday was general insane-ness, I had classes, work, and symphonic band to go to.. then the past 2 days I’ve been lazy in general. I did get a cool antique postcard of Thomas Edison’s home in Ft. Myer’s Florida (which I have had the pleasure of visiting). I collected postcards as a kid and I still have them somewhere… I’m really inclined to dig them out of the attic and see if I have anything cool. I think I mostly picked out ones I thought were pretty at the time. Then my interest waned and I continued on to other collections. This weekend I also went to the Dark Side and played Monkeyball on Game Cube for a very very long time. Shame on me.
I had my first yoga class today. I’ve been obsessed with yoga ever since my employment at Woodward Memorial Library. There was the shiny new yoga book that Shira and I took out at alternating times (her 3 weeks, followed by my 3 weeks… no patrons ever got to see that damn book). We even had a few “yoga parties” where we made batsmati rice and “savory cheese muffins.” Savory Cheese muffins that had things like whole corn, tomatoes, brocolli pieces… just imagine this scene. Our poor guests all drenched them in honey and choked them down. Even Shira’s gluttonous dog Minnie Mae refused to eat them. But they looked so good in the book! Here are some more thoughts on yoga from the high school years, circa early 1999.
So somehow, my Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella site got over 500 hits so far today. Geocities emailed me in disgust, saying that I’d gone over my 2 gig monthly bandwidth limit. Considering I got a mere 80 hits yesterday, I ask, Why? How? The new DVD came out January 2nd so I don’t know what the sudden hit is. Was my website featured on TV? or something!? that would be hot! Anyway, I must consider moving the site over here if this madness continues!
In other news, should I switch to Movable Type?
Updated my portfolio site. Added a new section, which there should be more on but I am in search of motivation to finish. Ah well, every bit helps.
Well, today was the first day of my strenuous fitness regimen. Unfortunately, for step aerobics it’s the same instructor as last semester (the pouffy haired blonde with tan skin and perfect abs, oh gag). I did feel special when she was like, “HEY GIRL!” Oh yes. I’m so cool! I was disappointed when we did most of the same things as last semester, but was amused by the old ladies behind me groaning every 5 minutes. My mom gets mad when I call people old. I guess I consider anyone “old” more than 30 years older than me. Sorry mom. So anyhow the old(er) ladies were moaning to each other, “I can’t take this any more!” “OW!” “I found muscles I didn’t even know were there!” Of course, I know I’m going to be one of these ladies one day. Heck, I’m practically one of them now, it would be fun to scream in pain during class! I’m hoping that staying in aerobics will make it natural for me to keep it up for the rest of my life. At least, that’s the Master Plan(tm). That, and to take over the world.
I spent the weekend as a real life mountain woman. OK, perhaps not quite but we did “rough it” at Oak’s cabin this weekend. We also went sledding down very many scary hills, where 99% of the time I was inclined to use my feet as brakes (well sometimes it was with purpose, to avoid running into a tree or something). More painful, however, was climbing back up to go down again. I was totally exhausted and spent a very needed 12 hours of sleep last night. Speaking of exhaustion, I start my rigorous fitness schedule tomorrow. Step aerobics on Tuesdays, Yoga on Mondays and Wednesdays, and finishing up with Hard Bodies on Fridays. Oh yes, I’m sure by the end of all this I will have a “hard body.” Ahem. Right.
Here are some fascinating tidbits about MOI:
1. What was your first job?
I worked at Woodward Memorial Library (affectionately nicknamed WML) as a student page. I put away books in the sweltering heat of the summer; continued to work there through my senior year of high school and the summer before college. My best friend Shira also worked there, and the best part was joking about the patrons that came in. Chicken Soup Lady? was our favorite to make fun of; her weekly Monday-night visits to the library always included asking the librarian if the latest Chicken Soup for the Soul book had arrived yet.
2. What was your first car? What happened to it?
My first car is still the car I own, a 1988 Oldsmobile Calais by the name of Dominique. She took me to and from work through the summer, and I thank her for that. I was kind enough to provide her with a powerpuff girls steering wheel cover and I also have Blossom hanging from the rearview mirror. Now she is sitting at home, waiting for me to see her again.
3. What was your first concert?
Alanis Morissette at Darien Lake (now a Six Flags, and a former employer of mine, argh). I was 15 and I had to miss part of a day of Band Camp for it ! Scandalous! Just about everyone who was anyone went to that concert; Alanis looked more like a little doll on stage from where we were standing – for all I know it could have been an impostor the whole time!
