Happy Holidays!

Needless to say, I’ve been swept up in the holiday hubbub – wrapping presents, baking cookies, visiting relatives, etc etc. Plus, it is quite a contest to get a few minutes on the computer here!

So, I got a lot of nice new things for Christmas – lots of hot little clothing items and lots of other things that made me smile. =) However, we have a live Christmas tree this year, which Carrie is allergic to. I don’t go 10 minutes without a huge “AAH-CHOO!” or at least blowing my nose. Oh bother.

We’ve finally got a small dusting of snow this morning, of course, because I had to drive to the dentist. Nothing is more pleasant than having your teeth dug at with sharp metal tools within an hour of waking up for the day. I also enjoy the crunchy toothpaste immensely! And oh, flouride! I love that too! But I must admit my teeth do look and feel more lovely now. Beauty is pain, or is pain beauty? Mu hahaha.

I got up at 7am, suffered through 3 hours of final exam torture, then went on a jolly happy shopping spree for 10 hours! I’m happy to say that I did get some good boys and girls crossed off my gift list. Wooo hooo! Unfortunately, I had some “shopping anxiety” that caused aimless wandering for the first, oh, 4 hours. However, after an inspirational milkshake and some time for focusing, the shop-o-rama began.

Now I prepare myself for some travel, I am bringing home all my foliage (oh, 6 plants) and laundry – I am really starting to seriously wonder how I’m going to get all this stuff back, in addition to any gifts I get, back to school come January. Perhaps I’ll rent a camel and make my return trip on horseback. :-) Alas, I must get to sleep for tomorrow is my journey to the wild land of Binghamton, NY.

Hello! I know I haven’t written during my week off. Somehow, Oak has managed to keep me extremely busy! I saw Not Another Teen Movie and Out Cold, two movies that are obviously family classics for all. (uuh.. riight.). We also went roller skating at Guptill’s, and I almost ran over several small children who seemed to like cutting in front of me – don’t they know I didn’t know how to stop? I also went to Tar-jay (Yuppie terms for Target… how francais.) and Joann Fabrics with Shira, to begin our christmas shopping. Not to mention several evenings of party time, and several meals outside the Commons. Rock on.

Now, the bleak reality has finally sunken in – my Managing IT Resources exam is tomorrow. Oh, yee gods of exams, please don’t let the Telecommunications or i2 Technologies cases be on there! Please provide me with photographic memory and knowledge of the 50 acronyms I’m supposed to know! Thank you! :-) In 12 hours I’ll be all done! Yahooey! :-)

So here I am at my work study, where they’ve recently set up the department Christmas tree. The star at the top is made out of two yellow floppy disks glued opposed to each other. Leave it up to computer science people!

I would just like to say I am proud to announce I did not kill myself ice skating. In fact, I only really fell down one time – and was it my fault? I don’t remember.. there were a few other close calls, tripping over bumps in the ice and being run over by big dudes.. yikes! I can now successfully skate in a straight line, and slow down enough to stop without slamming into the wall. Yahoo!

In other news, I recently purchased a delicious issue of Martha Stewart Living. I am so impressed with all she has to offer for the Christmas season. Laura and I have been meaning to play our clarinets so I recently downloaded some christmas sheet music off the net. Yay net. I love you. Anyhoo, I also got my two favorite christmas songs from my band days – Sleigh Ride and Overture to the Messiah. Ah, memories… *deep sigh.* I’m actually considering joining symphonic band next semester.. That is, if they’ll take me.. lol!

Since I’m beginning shopping for Christmas presents sometime soon (maybe), what do you want for Christmas/holiday?

Shauny has a most hilarious post up about people and their cell phones. I have yet to own a cell phone, mostly because I get about 4 phone calls a week anyhow (2 telemarketers, 1 call from my dad at like 8am on Sunday mornings, and a very occasional on-campus call from one of my friends when they can’t catch me on IM). But if I did have one, I’m sure I would compulsively check it every 5 minutes. Or not.

Eloise used to be my absolute favorite Christmas story. My mom would always read me Eloise at Christmastime on Christmas Eve, and my dad would read me ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas. Aaaah, memories. :-)

I would just like to praise the wonders of the RPI student’s ultimate elixir – Mountain Dew. There is not much that can keep me awake, especially until 5 AM, and MD has managed to do this for me two nights in a row. No wonder programmers bow down to it. Of course, I’ll probably die from the Yellow No. 5 or whatever it is, but who cares? I got my work done! Yahoo! I usually don’t have a problem with getting things done ahead of time but for some reason or another it just didn’t work this year. Ah well, I’ve got some Visual Literacy to do and then a final on a week from Monday (on the 18th) . So I’ll be doing pretty much nothing for a week or so. Does this bother me? No, it really does not.

This past weekend was pretty exciting – New York is really pretty at this time of year with all the decorations and twinkly lights and whatnot. I felt the show, however, was pretty corny. Not that I expected it to be an intellectually stimulating show (actually, I would never want that!), it just seemed to be disorganized with no real finale. It was exciting to see the Rockettes, who I used to just love when I was younger. It amazes me to see how straight they can stay in lines, after many years of trying to do this in marching band. Without the Rockettes, that show’s got nothing. Ah well, it did help to bring about the Christmas spirit anyhow! I wish I had time to give my site a holiday motif! That would be hot. :-)
