Yesterday was just incredibly interesting in general. Yes, yes, interest abound.

Something very exciting to share was our experience at Plum Blossom, a Chinese restaurant here. It was very cool! I always suspected it was kind of ghetto, but it really wasn’t at all – they are almost finished renovating the inside, it has all sorts of beautiful woodwork and sculptures and whatnot. Since this was an “exciting evening out” we decided to get something we weren’t exactly sure what it was – so we got a Poo Poo Platter. I just enjoy saying that – “I would like a Poo Poo Platter please!”

But it was just regular appetizers – it did come with a huge fire in the center though! The real adventure was in the dish I ordered, which was orange duck with lychees. Now I had no idea what a lychee was, so I ate it very reluctantly. It was strange because it was squooshy, and it “looked like a squid’s head!” (Okay, who’s laughing at how dumb we are yet?).

I decided to eat one all at once but it was so hot that it burned the inside of my mouth – eek! After all this hemming and hawing, we finally decided to ask the waiter what the heck those little things were. We had assumed it was some kind of animal, when in reality it is an asian fruit that grows like a strawberry! This whole thing was quite educational. The waiter told us they come in a jar and they are actually imported from China – exciting! He brought us some that hadn’t been cooked and they were much yummier! The most hilarious part of all is that he also brought us some of the juice that it comes in the jar with (I think it is stored like fruit salad or canned pineapple).

Things seem so much less threatening when you know what they are. :-)
