Okay, so I’m back from Toronto!! Wohoo! I am way too lazy to write about everything that happened, so I am going to describe my Ikea experience in this entry.
As you know, the stop at Ikea was the most anticipated part of our trip. As we rounded the corner and saw the blue and yellow IKEA sign in Burlington, Ontario, I was unable to contain my excitement. Luckily we found our mecca quite easily. This was Sarah’s first time at Ikea, and she did not seem to share Shira’s or my emotional outburst, not even upon entering. Of course we went through the showroom area first, which was inspiring as usual. I got a photo of Shira and Sarah in this extremely hot set-up with hot coloured (notice my Canadian spelling!) couches and mod hanging lights. The couches were a bit stiff for my liking, however, though others were more comfortable. I finally got to sit in one of those lounge chairs that is like a metal frame with fabric stretched over it, and found it quite comfy.
After browsing the top floor, we stopped for lunch. I, of course, got the managers’ special – Swedish meatballs, salad, potatoes, bread, drink. I think that the cashier there was the same one that we had when we visited Ikea at Christmastime – I guess we should have written her name down, hehe. Before we began eating, we got a shot of our food which wasn’t quite as delicious as I recall it being in December, but tasty nonetheless. The most amusing thing happened during this part – a (Canadian, obviously) family was sitting next to us, a father, mother, and two little kids. The father exclaims, “Who wants to ride in the bag?” and the litle girl lit up and replied, “I DO I DO!”
Yes folks, a small child was riding around in one of those big yellow tote bags they give you for lugging your crap around. They also provide carts and strollers, so I simply do not understand why this father did this, but it was amusing anyway – the little girl’s head sticking out, her body reclined in the tote bag. How strange.
After lunch, we spotted these big stuffed snakes in the childrens’ area, and we were like, “KODAK MOMENT!” — Shira and Sarah were ready with the snakes around their necks, while I was about to take the picture when an Ikea worker tapped me on the shoulder and said, “You know you can’t take pictures in here, don’t you?”
Now how was I supposed to know that? There were no signs. I think it’s normally allowed to take photographs in stores, isn’t it? So we got no snake picture. Bummer. Please let me know if you can decode this strange mystery for me. I should have at least tried to get a picture of the little kid riding around in the tote bag too!
The rest of the Ikea visit was fairly uneventful – we were just doing serious shopping, of course. I got a new lamp and some other new decorations to go with my red and black motif. Woo hoo! I am, however, perturbed about the picture taking issue because I wanted to get so many more shots in the store before I left! Bummer!
